The BA(Hons) Journalism & Mass Communicationis a course offered at the undergraduate level meant to introduce the student to the allied-intersecting fields of Journalism and Mass Communication. It must be realized that Journalism concerns the process of mining meaningful information usually conveyed via printed or electronic media. Mass communication is a broader domain encompassing radio, television, films, magazines, newspapers, advertising, branding, corporate and internet to convey information.

This is a challenging field suitable for individuals possessing critical thinking, linguistic creativity, investigative capability and a sense of social responsibility. Good presentation and communication skills are an added advantage. A good command of languages adds edge to the learning process.


The course consists of a number of core courses including Print media, Television, Digital media, Culture, Politics, Business Economics, Reporting and Historical context.

The course is based on an even balance of theoretical knowledge and practical application. The curriculum is aimed to impart technical skill in interpreting and conveying in a most effective manner the prevalent scenario in society. The course work comprises of lectures, interactive seminars, computer based pedagogy, guest lectures project work, and industrial training. The student shall have a practical grasp of principles of the vast field of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Students will learn to print newspapers, develop and execute television content, radio programmes, print media, and web content. The course also acquaints the student with production of films and documentary. There will be a focus on the use of software prevalent in JMC industry.

A number of subjects can be chosen for higher studies. Prominent among these are Management Studies, Advertising, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations, Broadcast Journalism and Convergent Journalism.
