The Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) also known as Clinical Laboratory Science is a three-year degree course offered by Quantum School of Health Sciences. The course primarily deals with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases through the use of clinical laboratory tests. The program teaches students the ways to use technological instrumentation in an advanced laboratory setting to diagnose, treat and stop diseases. After the successful completion of the degree program, students become well-equipped with the knowledge and skills required to handle advanced lab equipments and perform accurate laboratory tests.
Medical Technologists are one of the most important assets of the health profession. Though the Medical Technologists spend less time with patients than doctors and nurses, they play a significant role in collecting the information needed to give the best care to the patient. In fact, the practice of modern medicine would be impossible without the tests performed in the laboratories.
The career prospects in the field rely upon the educational and technical skills of the technologist. Initially, he/she can join any laboratory as an authorized medical laboratory technician. Later, after gaining experience, one can switch to numerous blood banks, nursing homes, personal hospitals, pathology laboratories, etc. The demand for laboratory technicians is growing with the expansion of healthcare center.
At Quantum University, due emphasis is laid upon making students competent to carry out all the modern sophisticated diagnostic procedures in the laboratory. Here, the academic knowledge is supplemented with regular clinical visits, guest lectures, internships and a lot more. Hands-on-trainings are an integral part of the curriculum for which students are posted in various labs and are engaged in day to day work with senior technicians and learn under the supervision of pathologists.
A BMLT degree holder can get a job in Hospital, Nursing Home, Clinic, Public Health Facility, and Commercial Laboratory. With adequate data and skill, BMLT degree holders can advance to management or superior positions in hospitals and laboratories. Additionally, Medical Laboratory Technologists work as Laboratory Supervisor, Health Care Administrator, Laboratory System Analyst, Instructional arranger, etc. Furthermore, multiple opportunities are out there in molecular biotechnology corporations, molecular medicine and also in vitro fertilization laboratories.
Additionally, those who complete a PhD may find technician jobs at foreign universities or the Research and Development (R&D) wings of prestigious pharmaceutical companies. Research opportunities in urban disease control, analytical development, clinical research, formulation research and new drug development are exploding too, with major companies investing huge money in R&D.
