The Department of Applied Medical Sciences hosted a hands-on workshop titled Science and Art of Baking on 22 November 2025 at the Food and Nutrition Lab of Quantum University, Roorkee. The session began at 11:00 AM and drew active participation from students of Nutrition and Dietetics along with learners from other allied health programs.

The workshop was led by Ms. Taruna Mondal, an enthusiastic baker and proud alumna of Quantum University. With her strong background in culinary science and practical baking skills, she introduced students to the scientific principles that shape successful baking. She explained concepts such as ingredient functionality, temperature control, fermentation, texture development and the chemistry behind common baking reactions.

Ms. Taruna also demonstrated a range of baking methods, allowing students to connect classroom knowledge with real kitchen practice. Participants engaged fully, asking questions and taking part in hands-on activities that helped them understand how baking blends accuracy with creativity.
Throughout the session, she highlighted that baking is both a science requiring precision and an art that depends on creativity, intuition and sensory judgment. This approach encouraged students to think beyond recipes and explore the deeper principles behind food preparation.

The workshop offered valuable practical exposure, helping students strengthen their skill set and gain confidence in innovative food techniques.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks to Ms. Taruna for her inspiring session and to all participants for contributing to the workshop’s success. Activities like this continue to support experiential learning and enhance the academic environment within the department.
