Empowering Young Minds: A Transformative 4-Day BFSI Workshop at Quantum University

19 July 2025

In a world where financial literacy is no longer optional but essential, Quantum University, Roorkee, took a bold and forward-thinking step to equip its students with practical knowledge and industry-relevant skills. From 29th April to 2nd May 2025, the Department of Commerce and Finance, in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovation Council, successfully organized a powerful four-day workshop titled “Skilling the Youth of Uttarakhand in the BFSI Sector.”

This workshop was not just another academic event. It was a mission-driven initiative under Project Gaurav, supported by the Government of Uttarakhand and NSE, that aimed to empower the next generation of professionals by bridging the ever-widening gap between classroom learning and real-world financial systems.

Why BFSI? Why Now?

The Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance (BFSI) sector is one of the fastest-growing domains in the Indian economy, driven by fintech innovations, digital transactions, and policy reforms. However, many students lack exposure to how the industry truly operates. This workshop aimed to change that narrative, starting right here in Uttarakhand.

Led by an Expert in the Field

Guiding this immersive experience was Dr. Ankur Bhatnagar, Founder of Mind Club Foundation and a renowned trainer associated with SEBI, NSE, NISM, PFRDA, and other top-tier institutions. His energy, experience, and ability to translate complex financial topics into digestible content made the sessions engaging and insightful for all participants.

What the Students Learned: Day-by-Day Highlights

Day 1: The Blueprint of BFSI

The workshop kicked off with an introduction to the BFSI architecture, covering everything from banking operations to digital payment systems and the importance of anti-money laundering (AML) practices. Students were also introduced to EKYC processes, demystifying how digital verification systems work in India’s financial ecosystem.

“It was the first time I truly understood how the banking system connects with everything else in the financial world,” shared Riya Sharma, a BBA Finance student.

Day 2: Demystifying Mutual Funds

Day two was dedicated to the world of mutual funds. Students explored their structure, types, investment strategies, and tax implications. A role play session, where students acted as fund managers, brought the Franklin Templeton case study to life and sparked energetic debates on investment decision-making.

Day 3: Into the Capital Markets

Things got real on day three, with live simulations of stock trading and deep dives into the primary and secondary markets. Concepts like equity valuation, investor psychology, and market behavior were taught through practical examples and case studies, ensuring students didn’t just learn theory—they experienced it.

Day 4: Taxes, Fintech, and the Future

The final day brought everything full circle. Students learned about income tax, GST on securities, tax-saving instruments, and how to manage documentation efficiently. The session ended on a futuristic note with an exploration of fintech: UPI, e-wallets, robo-advisors, AI-based trading, and fraud prevention strategies were discussed, backed by real-life scenarios.

“Learning about AI in finance gave me chills—this is what the future looks like, and we’re getting ready for it today,” said Aman Joshi, a B.Com 2nd-year student.

Certification and Beyond

The workshop concluded with an online examination to test knowledge retention. Students who passed received digital certificates and earned eligibility for the next level of the BFSI certification program. More importantly, they left the hall with a renewed sense of purpose and a clearer understanding of the financial world.

Lasting Impact

This wasn’t just a workshop—it was a transformational experience. Here’s what it achieved:

  • Bridged the skill gap between academic knowledge and industry expectations
  • Boosted employability through exposure to practical tools and real-time simulations
  • Ignited interest in BFSI careers among finance students
  • Built confidence in interpreting financial data, managing portfolios, and exploring fintech

A Step Toward a Better Financial Future

Quantum University’s BFSI workshop proved that with the right mentorship and practical learning approach, youth empowerment becomes more than a goal—it becomes a reality. Through initiatives like Project Gaurav, the University reaffirmed its commitment to creating future-ready graduates who can navigate and lead in India’s dynamic financial sector.

“When education meets real-world relevance, that’s where transformation begins. This workshop changed the way I see my career in finance.” — Priya Verma, BBA (Finance)
