The Department of Law, Quantum University, organized an Intra-University Debate Competition on 26 November 2025 at Harmony Hall to commemorate Constitution Day. The event brought together students from different law programmes and provided a meaningful platform to deliberate on the contemporary constitutional theme, “Data Protection vs. Freedom of Expression: What Should the Constitution Prioritize?”
The objective of the competition was to encourage students to engage critically with one of the most pressing constitutional challenges of the digital era. As concerns around data privacy and digital surveillance continue to grow, the debate focused on how the Constitution should balance the protection of personal data with the democratic value of free expression. The theme prompted participants to examine constitutional philosophy, judicial interpretation, and the impact of technology on fundamental rights.

Students presented well-researched and structured arguments, drawing upon constitutional provisions, landmark judgments, comparative legal perspectives and technological developments. The debate featured insightful discussions on privacy, informational security, state regulation and the limits of free speech in a digital society. Participants demonstrated strong research skills, clarity of thought and effective rebuttals, making the sessions intellectually engaging.
At the conclusion of the competition, Snehasish Sarkar (BBA LL.B.) secured the first position for his balanced and well-reasoned arguments. Harshit Panchal (B.A. LL.B.) earned the second position, while Mohd. Aasif (BBA LL.B.) was awarded the third position. Their performances reflected a sound understanding of constitutional principles and contemporary legal issues.

The event concluded with appreciation for all participants and recognition of the efforts of the Department of Law in promoting constitutional awareness and critical legal thinking. The debate not only marked Constitution Day in a meaningful manner but also encouraged future legal professionals to engage thoughtfully with evolving challenges at the intersection of law, technology and society.
