Dr. Shivani Tyagi

Designation : Assistant Professor

Dr. Tyagi holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. Her research focused on the medicinal properties of Ganga water. During the study, various bacteriophages were discovered in the Ganga River, which can combat microorganisms responsible for human diseases such as pneumonia, cholera, and urinary tract infections. Three host-specific bacteriophages against human enteropathogenic bacteria—Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Klebsiella pneumoniae—were identified. The study highlighted the unique properties of Ganga water, revealing that it contains a significantly higher proportion of organisms with antibacterial properties.
