Geotechnical Engineering Lab

The Geotechnical Engineering Lab is dedicated to studying soil behavior and properties crucial for foundation design and earthwork projects. It is equipped with apparatus for grain size distribution, Atterberg limits, compaction, permeability, direct shear, and triaxial tests. Students determine soil classification, moisture content, density, shear strength, and consolidation characteristics to evaluate bearing capacity and settlement potential. Experiments include standard and modified Proctor compaction, unconfined compression, and permeability tests for seepage analysis. The lab also provides tools for sampling disturbed and undisturbed soils following IS codes. By connecting theoretical soil mechanics with practical investigation, the Geotech Lab helps future engineers design stable foundations, retaining structures, and slopes, ensuring safety, economy, and sustainability in civil engineering projects.
