Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Lab

Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Lab

The Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulics Lab provides practical understanding of fluid properties, flow behavior, and hydraulic machines essential for civil engineering applications. It is equipped with setups for measuring discharge using Venturimeter, Orifice meter, and Notches, along with apparatus for studying laminar and turbulent flow, pipe friction, and minor losses. Students perform experiments to determine coefficients of orifices, mouthpieces, and weirs, as well as calibration of flow-measuring devices. The lab also includes models of hydraulic turbines (Pelton wheel, Kaplan, Francis) and pumps (centrifugal, reciprocating) for performance evaluation. By analyzing fluid motion, energy losses, and machine efficiency, students connect fluid mechanics theory with real-world applications in water supply systems, irrigation projects, dams, and hydraulic structures. This lab equips future engineers with the skills to design efficient, safe, and sustainable hydraulic systems in civil engineering projects.
