Engineering Geology Lab

Engineering Geology Lab

The Engineering Geology Lab provides practical knowledge of earth materials, geological structures, and natural processes essential for civil and environmental engineering. It is equipped with rock and mineral specimens, topographic maps, geological maps, hand lenses, microscopes, and hardness testing kits. Students learn to identify and classify igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks, study crystal structures, and recognize common minerals and fossils. Practical exercises include measuring strike and dip using a geological compass, interpreting geological formations, and understanding folds, faults, and joints. The lab supports field mapping and resource evaluation for construction projects, groundwater exploration, and site investigations. By combining classroom theory with direct observation and analysis, the Geology Lab strengthens skills in geological assessment and environmental planning.
