Building Materials & Construction Lab

Building Materials & Construction Lab

The Building Materials & Construction Lab focuses on testing and understanding the physical and mechanical properties of materials used in civil engineering works. It is equipped with apparatus for determining the quality of cement, bricks, tiles, timber, and other construction materials. Students conduct experiments such as fineness, consistency, soundness, and setting time tests on cement; compressive strength and water absorption tests on bricks and blocks; and identification and strength evaluation of timber and stone. The lab also provides tools for studying mix proportions, workability, and durability of construction materials in accordance with IS codes. By combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on testing, students learn to evaluate material quality, select appropriate building materials, and apply construction techniques effectively. This lab equips future engineers to ensure safety, economy, and sustainability in building projects through proper material selection and quality control.
