The Department of Commerce & Finance, Quantum University, organized an informative and practical Workshop on GST Return Filing for students of B.Com III and V Semesters. The workshop aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of GST compliance and its practical application in business and professional settings.
The session was led by Mr. Govind Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce & Finance, who introduced students to the basic process and structure of GST return filing. The workshop focused on three important GST returns—GSTR-1, GSTR-2B, and GSTR-3B—and helped students understand their respective purposes and interrelationship.
Students learned that GSTR-1 is used for reporting outward supplies and that accurate invoice-level data is important for compliance. The discussion on GSTR-2B introduced students to the auto-drafted Input Tax Credit (ITC) statement and the importance of reconciling ITC with books of accounts and supporting records. Through GSTR-3B, students gained an understanding of reporting taxable supplies, tax liability, and eligible ITC for a particular tax period.
The workshop also emphasized the importance of GST reconciliation, accurate record-keeping, and error-free reporting to help avoid incorrect tax liability and ITC-related issues. By relating GST concepts to practical business situations, the session helped students understand the real-world requirements of return preparation and compliance.
The workshop enhanced students’ understanding of practical GST procedures and highlighted the importance of accurate and timely reporting. It also helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and professional requirements, contributing to students’ preparedness for future roles in accounting, taxation, and finance.
