Quantum University Civil Engineering Students Visit L&T Tunnel Construction Site for Industrial Exposure

06 May 2026

The Department of Civil Engineering at Quantum University Roorkee organized an industrial visit to the Larsen & Toubro Tunnel Construction Site on 6 May 2026 for Civil Engineering students. The visit was conducted with the objective of providing students with practical exposure to tunnel construction techniques and modern engineering practices used in large-scale infrastructure projects.

A total of 11 students along with one faculty member participated in the visit. During the program, students were warmly welcomed and guided by the engineers and technical professionals of L&T, who explained the complete tunnel construction process in detail. The experts shared valuable insights into various stages of tunnel construction including surveying, drilling, blasting, excavation, rock support systems, tunnel lining, ventilation systems, and on-site safety procedures.

Students also observed the operation of heavy construction machinery and modern equipment used in underground infrastructure projects. The interactive session with engineers allowed students to gain a better understanding of project execution, quality control measures, construction challenges, and worker safety standards followed at the site.

The industrial visit helped students connect theoretical concepts from subjects such as Tunnel Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Surveying, and Construction Technology with their practical applications in real-world projects. The experience significantly enhanced their technical knowledge, industry awareness, and understanding of modern civil engineering practices.

The Department of Civil Engineering expressed sincere gratitude to the management and engineering team of L&T for their valuable guidance, cooperation, and support in making the industrial visit highly informative and enriching for the students.
