B.Tech Civil Engineering students of Quantum University participated in a Capacity Building Workshop on “Net-Zero Carbon 2070 India: Decarbonizing the Construction Industry through LC³”, organized by the Department of Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, in association with the Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and JK Cement.

The workshop focused on sustainable construction practices and emerging technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions from the construction industry. A key focus was Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC³), a low-carbon cement technology, along with discussions on decarbonization of cement and concrete, sustainable construction materials, carbon footprint, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), industry adoption, and policy perspectives.

The programme featured expert interactions with professionals and representatives from reputed academic institutions, government organizations, and the construction industry. The sessions provided students with valuable insights into low-carbon cement, sustainable concrete, carbon reduction strategies, and emerging approaches to green construction.

The participating second-year Civil Engineering students gained an opportunity to connect their classroom learning in areas such as concrete technology, construction materials, and environmental engineering with current industry developments. The workshop enhanced their understanding of sustainable construction materials and highlighted the role of civil engineers in developing environmentally responsible infrastructure.

The workshop served as an enriching learning experience, encouraging students to look beyond conventional construction practices and appreciate the importance of sustainability and innovation in the built environment. The exposure to LC³ technology and decarbonization strategies further strengthened their awareness of India's long-term Net-Zero Carbon 2070 vision and their role as future civil engineering professionals in supporting a low-carbon, sustainable, and resilient future.
