Quantum University Civil Engineering Students Gain Practical Exposure Through Survey Camp in Mussoorie

03 May 2026

Students of the Department of Civil Engineering at Quantum University Roorkee participated in an extensive survey camp conducted in Mussoorie from 26th April to 3rd May 2026. Organized as an important component of the academic curriculum, the camp aimed to provide students with practical exposure and enhance their understanding of field-based surveying techniques.

During the camp, students actively carried out various surveying activities including chain surveying, compass surveying, leveling, and contour mapping. They also gained hands-on experience in operating surveying instruments such as theodolites, dumpy levels, and total stations, while learning observation recording, data booking, and error correction techniques.

The camp enabled students to work in real terrain conditions, helping them understand practical challenges associated with field surveys, including uneven topography, weather conditions, and accessibility issues. The activities also promoted teamwork, coordination, leadership, discipline, and problem-solving abilities as students worked collaboratively on assigned survey projects.

The survey camp was conducted under the supervision of Camp Incharge Dr. Karan Babbar. Faculty coordinators Mohit Kumar, Preeti Bisht, and Smita Dobhal played an important role in mentoring students throughout the field activities, while Lab Technician Shashikant Saini provided technical support for handling and maintaining the surveying instruments.

A total of 34 students participated in the camp, making it a highly enriching and memorable learning experience. The initiative significantly contributed to strengthening students’ practical knowledge, technical skills, and professional development in the field of civil engineering.
