Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Professor, Deptt of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee, visited Quantum University and delivered an interactive guest lecture, where he shared his invaluable expertise of the subject and rich practical experience with the Q-mates. Around a hundred and fifty students of BTech attended the lecture and gained a wealth of knowledge from it. The event began with an auspicious lamp lightening ceremony and then the organising coordinator warmly welcomed Dr Sanjeev Kumar with his compassionate words and gave a brief introduction about him.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar began by explaining the opportunities lying in the field of Artificial Intelligence and how to approach the vast curriculum and gain maximum value out of it. He also paid due emphasis on the research activities and asked students to explore the domain and contribute their bit to the world of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Afterwards, Dr Sanjeev Kumar delivered a very informative presentation on artificial intelligence and machine learning using Mathematics. He explained that with the recent progress of science and technology, especially the evolution of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, the demand for developing systems which can understand high-level semantics in daily activities has grown. Later on, the speaker illustrated different forms of Machine Learning i.e.Supervised, Unsupervised and Semi-Supervised through practical examples. The three distinct characteristics of Representation, Evaluation and Optimization were further explained in detail. Dr Sanjeev Kumar highlighted the emerging application areas of Machine Learning with special mention to use of eigenvalues, confusion matrix, decision trees and support vector machines.
The concluding remarks were given by Dr Gulshan Chauhan, Dean, Faculty of Technology. He appreciated and thanked Dr Sanjeev Kumar for sparing his valuable time for delivering such an insightful lecture for the students. He also showed his willingness to welcome Dr Sanjeev Kumar in future to conduct some more fruitful lectures for the students. In the end, Dr Gulshan Chauhan presented a memento and certificate of appreciation to the guest speaker on behalf of the department.
