Workshop of Quantum University

Q-mates attended the workshop on ‘Innovative Design: Ideation to Realization’ at IIT, Roorkee.

Students of Quantum School of Technology attended a workshop on ‘Innovative Design: Ideation to Realization’ organised at Design Innovation Center (DIC) of IIT, Roorkee. The main objective of the workshop was to provide students with insights into Design Innovations and 3D printing related technologies. The Design Innovation Center (DIC) is one of the twenty DICs set up in the country by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India under the national initiative for setting up of Design Innovation Center, Open Design School and National Design Innovation Network.

The workshop was divided into two sessions; the pre-lunch session was introductory and was taken by Prof Akshay Dvivedi, Prof Radha Raman Mishra and Prof Varun Sharma of IIT Roorkee. The workshop was started by Prof. Akshay Dvivedi when he briefed the students about DIC and talked about “Discovery, Invention, Innovation” and how engineers can help in the development of society. In the second session, Dr Radha Raman Mishra discussed the modern manufacturing process and gave an introduction of 3D printing. In the third session, Prof. Varun Sharma discussed Rapid Prototyping, Additive manufacturing, and the steps involved in the development of a product via 3D printing. The complete product development cycle of 3D printing was discussed along with applications, advantages, limitations and future scope of 3D printing.

Post lunch session was all about modelling a part in CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software. i.e. Solidworks. The virtual CAD models developed by the students were printed in the fifth session with the use of 3D printer ultimaker. In the valedictory session, the certificate of participation was given to students and faculties by Prof. Inderdeep Singh, Prof. Akshay Dvivedi and Dr Radha Raman Mishra. The workshop proved very useful for the students as they got to learn about the latest researches in the field of science, technology and engineering.
