The university organised an educational tour to CSIR – CBRI, Roorkee for the Civil Engineering Students. Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) is an establishment of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India. The CBRI has been vested with the responsibility of generating, cultivating and promoting building science and technology in the service of the country. This visit aimed to give a real insight into the working procedure being followed in the industries. The students were overwhelmed as they were going to attend the talk by a renowned scientist, Dr Dharmaraju. Forty-three students of Btech II and III year, along with two faculty members and few diploma students visited the prestigious organisation and earned an ample amount of knowledge and experience.
The college bus departed at 10:00 am and reached the destination at 11:20 AM. Dr Dharmaraju graciously welcomed the Q-mates and conducted an introductory session. Then, Dr Dharmaraju delivered a lecture in which he explained the working of various projects in CBRI and also showed some
videos of live projects.
Students were taken to ‘Fire Engineering Lab’, where they learnt about various equipment and experiments which are used to check fire and for the safety of the structures. Students also visited the “Non-Destructive Testing Lab”, where they learnt about Non-destructive testing of RC structures, investigation of distressed structures and suggesting remedial measures, damage survey, repair, strengthening and retrofitting measures for earthquake-affected buildings. Students were taken to “Rural Technology Park”, where they saw various models of rural infrastructure.
Once this interactive lab visiting session ended, faculty members thanked Dr Dharmaraju very graciously. Overall, this visit widened the knowledge base of the students and made them aware of new technologies of Civil Engineering Sector.
