Department of Civil and Petroleum Engineering organised a guest lecture on “Strengthening of the foundation of Qutub Minar”. Dr S C Handa was the resource person who shared his knowledge on the topic to give a real insight into working procedure being followed in construction. More than a hundred students of BTech and Diploma in Civil Engineering and ten faculty members became a part of this guest lecture. Mr Karan Babbar and Ms Shilpi Gupta as organising coordinators made all the arrangements for the lecture with utmost
efficiency.
Dr Gulshan Chauhan, Dean, Quantum School of Technology graciously welcomed Dr S C Handa with a bouquet. After a brief introduction session, Dr S C Handa began the lecture by telling students the history of Qutub Minar along with various facts related to the same. Later on, the lecture moved to a presentation where several images of the live projects were shown to the students. Dr S C Handa told students about the damage minar has gone through over the centuries. Furthermore, he highlighted various remedial measures which can be used to recover the damage. He concluded his lecture by talking on how an earthquake affects buildings.
Through this lecture, students learnt several construction techniques and practical preventive measures used to strengthen the foundation. The session ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr Gulshan Chauhan. Once this interactive session ended, faculty members and students thanked the speaker very graciously. Overall it was a very knowledgeable and delightful experience for students.
