Empowering Futures, One Frame at a Time
The Department of Media Studies successfully hosted a remarkable event on March 21, 2025, at Harmony Hall, centering on the vast and ever-evolving career opportunities in the media industry. Titled “Career Prospects in the Media Industry”, the session welcomed a full house of enthusiastic students, dedicated faculty members, and seasoned media professionals, creating a vibrant and intellectually stimulating atmosphere.
The event kicked off at 1:30 PM with a warm welcome and introductory address by the Head of the Department, who set the tone for the afternoon by highlighting the importance of industry exposure and academic engagement. The spotlight then turned to the guest of honor, Prof. (Dr.) KG Suresh, a distinguished media scholar and industry expert known for his impactful contributions to journalism and mass communication.

Prof. Suresh’s session was nothing short of enlightening. He delved deep into the current landscape of the media industry, shedding light on the multitude of roles available — from traditional journalism and public relations to the rapidly expanding realms of digital media, content creation, film production, and more. His talk captured the audience’s attention as he intertwined industry facts with personal anecdotes, providing a humanized and relatable perspective on career building.
He emphasized key traits that budding media professionals need to nurture — adaptability, creativity, continuous learning, and an eagerness to embrace emerging technologies. His words resonated deeply with students, many of whom found clarity and motivation to explore their potential in various domains of media.
Adding to the excitement of the day, the event marked the grand inauguration of the new Media Lab — a cutting-edge space designed to give students hands-on training and a taste of real-world media production. With advanced tools, editing suites, and creative software, the lab was unveiled as a haven for innovation and learning.
Prof. Suresh had the honor of cutting the ribbon and officially inaugurating the lab, followed by a tour where students and attendees witnessed the possibilities that now lay at their fingertips. The lab promises to be a transformative addition to the department, allowing students to develop skills in video production, sound editing, graphic design, and digital content creation — aligning education with industry demands.
The event concluded on a heartfelt note with a vote of thanks from the Head of the Department, who expressed sincere appreciation to Prof. Suresh for his time, wisdom, and presence, and to everyone who contributed to making the event a resounding success.
It was more than just a seminar — it was a spark of inspiration, a launchpad for young media aspirants, and a reminder that the media industry, while competitive, is filled with endless opportunities for those ready to adapt, innovate, and lead.
