Mr Sanjeev Kumar Lambha, Head of Mechanical Department, Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar visited Quantum University to deliver a guest lecture on Design for Mechanical Vibration Isolation. More than a hundred students of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering attended the lecture and gained a wealth of knowledge from it. The event began with an auspicious lamp lightening ceremony and then M.Kannan, Organising Coordinator warmly welcomed Dr Sanjeev Kumar with his compassionate words and gave a brief introduction about him.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar began the lecture by discussing the reasons for controlling mechanical vibrations. He explained why vibration is undesirable in many domains, primarily engineered systems and habitable spaces. He further highlighted the methods that have been developed to prevent the transfer of vibration to engineered systems. He said that vibrations propagate via mechanical waves and certain mechanical linkages conduct vibrations more efficiently than others. In the end, he discussed vibration isolation and the methods to control vibrations. He told that passive vibration isolation makes use of materials and mechanical linkages that absorb and damp these mechanical waves. To this, he added that active vibration isolation involves sensors and actuators that produce disruptive interference that cancels-out incoming vibration.
Dr Gulshan Chauhan, Dean, Faculty of Technology gave the concluding remarks and thanked Dr Sanjeev Kumar for sparing his valuable time for delivering such an insightful lecture for the students. He also showed his willingness to welcome Dr Sanjeev Kumar in future to conduct some more fruitful lectures for the students. Dr Gulshan Chauhan presented a memento and certificate of appreciation to the guest speaker on behalf of the department.
