On an educational visit students of BSc Agriculture visited the Patanjali Herbal Garden, Haridwar. The visit was organised to make students learn about the medicinal and aromatic plants.
On visiting the garden students were warmly welcomed by the officials. Students saw various medicinal and aromatic plants and learned how to identify them. The Herbal Garden had beautiful collections of more than 200 medicinal herbs, shrubs, trees, climbers and ornamental plants. Officials told students that in the herbal garden of Patanjali, cultivation and scientific research on the medicinal plants is carried out. Various greenhouses, poly houses and glasshouses have been constructed to conserve the rare species of herbs collected from Himalaya and other different regions of the country. Officials told students the various usages of the herbs in their daily life. Students were also exposed to herbs which had many antioxidant and anticancer properties. Furthermore, they saw many rare and endangered plants that were cultivated in the garden for research and medicinal use.
The visit proved beneficial for the students as they gained tonnes of knowledge about medicinal and aromatic plants.
