The Department of Applied Medical Sciences, Quantum University, Roorkee organized a hospital visit on 23rd February at Shaikh-Ul-Hind Maulana Mahmood Hasan Medical College, Ahmadpur Brahman, Pilakhani, District Saharanpur. The primary objective of this was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the dietetics department within a hospital setting.
The students visited different wards such as Gynae, Emergency, psychiatry as well as Diet clinic. At the Emergency ward, students were briefed on the categorization of patients into Red, Yellow, and Green zones based on their condition. They gained insights into the management and regulation of patients according to their medical emergency. They explored various sections including the Labor Room, Journal Ward, and Post-Operational area, gaining practical knowledge about maternal and neonatal care. The students visited the Outpatient Department (OPD) where they learned about various aspects of counseling from Dr. Anshuman Tiwari.
Students had the opportunity to observe the environment and practices in the psychiatry ward, enhancing their understanding of mental health care within a hospital setting. A visit to the diet clinic allowed students to witness firsthand the application of dietetics principles in patient care and management. Interacting with kitchen staff, students learned about different kitchen equipment used in hospital settings such as pressure cookers, dough-making machines, and steamers. They also learned about various types of diets hospital dietary services and management protocols.
This session included a question-and-answer segment, allowing students to delve deeper into the practical aspects of dietetics within a healthcare facility.
