This Seminar started with the welcoming of the chief guest honorable Justice Rajesh Tandon, who is a former chairman, of the Law Commission of Uttarakhand. In his lecture, he made aware of all the sections related to the Rape Laws such as section 375 and section 376 of I.P.C He connected Section 375 with Article 21 of the Constitution and compared it with the Human Rights Act and Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Justice Rajesh Tando discussed some important cases. The students learned a lot and came to know about the importance of interpretation in law. The second speaker was Dr. Vijay Laxmi Sharma from Manipal University, Jaipur where she told the students about the importance of gender equality in Rape Laws and the role of media. She explained how government should implement Rape Laws or what the best possibility is in this regard. She also mentioned how we can make rape laws gender-neutral.
On the second day of the National Legal Colloquium, we heard Dr. Anita Yadav from the University of Delhi on “Misuse of Rape Laws and Gender Neutrality”. In her lecture, she talked about all the situations where Rape Laws are used unnecessarily. On the third day of the National legal Colloquium, we saw how the speaker Dr. Anish V. Pillai from CUSAT, Kochi compared Rape Laws with Marital Rape and tells us what are the similarities and differences between the two. Dr. Anish V. Pillai informed us about all the aspects of Rape Laws in Detail.
On the fourth day, we heard Mr.Anto Substian from Christ University, Bengaluru who gave the ideas of Marital Rape Laws, its related issues, and doctrines that arose at different times in the International Perspective and explained how at the international level Marital Rape Laws were given direction according to the need of the time. He guided us on how we can settle the issues related to Marital Rape happening in India Scenario by learning International Perspective.
On the last day of five days, National Legal Colloquium, we witnessed the presence of Mr. Bayola Kiran from Damodaram Sayajirao National Law University, Visakhapatnam who discussed the ongoing cases in the Supreme Court concerning the topic.
More than 100 participants from different parts of India were present throughout the event. The event was a great success and productive as students gained knowledge.
