The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Health Sciences, Quantum University, organized a Guest Lecture on “Ensuring Food & Nutrition Security Through Diversified Sources of Food” today on World Food Day.
The Guest Speaker was Dr. M.C. Nautiyal from G.B. Pant University. Inaugurated in 1960, Pant University is the first Agriculture University in the Country. Over the past six decades, it has grown to be a formidable center for agriculture education, research, and development, and in many ways, ushered India’s renaissance in agriculture education.
The Speaker talked about how to ensure food security, its importance, and the need for diversification. The Professor also explained how India is overcoming the burden of malnutrition through food security and food consumption.
The World Food Day theme for 2021 is “Safe Food Now For A Healthy Tomorrow.” The occasion marks a day calling for worldwide awareness and collective action to combat the issue of hunger and ensure healthy diets for all.
World Food Day is an international day celebrated worldwide on 16th October to commemorate the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organizations concerned with hunger and food security, including the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
