Keeping true to its tradition of innovation Quantum University has set up an Intellectual Property Rights' Cell. The inauguration of the Cell was marked by a workshop organized at Quantum campus. The workshop was presided over by Dr. Shweta Singh who illuminated the mechanics of Intellectual Property before the audiences. Illustrating the concepts of intellectual property she stated, "Land registration is a proof of ownership of landed property. Similarly, the patent or copyright identifies researchers, inventors, authors or any scholar as the originator of a creative idea."The workshop successfully highlighted the nuances of patents, copyrights and trademarks.
The elementary goal of the IPR Cell is to popularize IPR concepts to the students and Faculty of Quantum. The IPR Cell will educate them on plagiarism and how protection against it avoids dispute on or denial of credit. Hence IPR provisions encourage further creative effort.
In the practical domain the IPR Cell will train the current researchers and scholars to use patents and copyrights to tap into the economic potential of their scientific, technical or creative ideas. This will open avenues for startups and entrepreneurial understanding. Moreover they can raise finances for their businessideas, enhance the market value of their business modelsoruse these ideas for profit-making.Further, the economic incentives will add-on to the quality and quantity of research. Examples are Apple, Microsoft, Google and Facebook who have systematically used patents to nurture creative ideas into great products and enterprises.
