B.A. (Hons.) Psychology

B.Sc Psychology is an undergraduate course which introduces the students to the study of psychology. Psychology can be defined as a study of behavior, mind, and mental conditions of human beings. To this end Psychology involves study of mental processes, motives, reactions, feelings, conflict resolution, crisis management, group think, motivation, and nature of mind.

The world is constantly changing in its social-economic, political and cultural landscape thereby rendering human life more complex. These events continually impact human behavior producing depression and anxiety.

Aspiring students should possess the 3 P’s of psychology- Patience, Perseverance and Passion. These are the essentials to understand the patients. Moreover they should have scientific aptitude and analytical thinking to help in diagnosis and devise solutions for their maladies. Good communication skills are also an asset.


The students who want to continue their education can pursue studies at the master’s level. This will allow student to focus on a specific subject of interest like child psychology, social psychology, clinical psychology, health psychology, developmental psychology and organizational behavior. This can be extended to research work via MPHIL and PHD degrees.

The focus of study is on knowledge of Personality theories, Human Behavior, Psychological Methods, Biological and Cognitive Psychology, Evolution, Learning, Memory and Perception, Intelligence and Psychometrics, Psychopathology and Neuropsychology.

The students actively learn to investigate dynamic interrelations of man and environment. The entire learning experience comprises of theoretical knowledge tested in laboratory and applied in field trips. The course includes training in and work towards promoting the well-being and quality-of-life of individuals.These include the techniques of diagnostics, psychotherapy, and Rehabilitative services. Learners would appreciate the mechanisms of the mind and behavior


A B.Sc in psychology entitles work with many Government departments. A number of Government health institutes in the country have a psychology department with suitable employment. There are a number of institutes, which offer opportunity for research. A number of elite government organizations have a dedicated psychologist to evaluate the mental wellbeing of the worker.

The graduate psychology students can work academics, drug trials, market research, schools, hospitals, clinics, social research, advertising or pure psychometric testing. The private sector gives opportunity to budding psychologists.There are a number of dedicated psychology clinics where employment can be found. The work involves ranges from diagnostics to counseling routines. Nowadays an increasing number of organizations in the world are helping their workers to maintain a healthy work routine. To this end they are employing psychologists. These professionals help the workers to develop a healthy balance between work and personal life. This maximizes worker potential and output.
